welcome!

my passion for photography goes back to childhood though, back to when i got my first film camera. since having kids, they have taught me just how important they are to capture. not just the beautifully posed pictures with everyone looking at the camera with a big smile on their face, but capturing them as they are. their personalities shining through with their big toothless grins, messy curls, or the monkey suit that must be worn years after it has become to small. childhood is so special and disappears so quickly as we get caught in the busy hussle bussle of everyday life. having children has also taught me the importance of birth photography. i did not allow any pictures during the births of my three children, and it is something that i will regret everyday for the rest of my life. birth is such a beautiful and miraculous thing, it just needs to be documented! there is nothing like the moment that you first meet the little person you have carried for the last nine months. the moment that you physically touch the most amazing thing that you will ever create. it is the most amazing moment in life. i want to capture that, for everyone i can, i believe that birth photography does not need to be graphic to tell the story, but that every moment of it is too priceless not to photograph! while these are the two areas of photography i am most passionate about i also love photographing seniors, engagements, weddings and events! my sister and i have teamed up to photograph weddings, so if there is one in your future please contact me about unfailing love wedding photography. i hope to hear from you and discuss your photography needs or even just meet with you for a chat over coffee!

week 10 {photo tip friday }

Posted on September 3, 2010

it’s friday, and i remembered… and i even got the pictures i wanted! sometimes i even surprise myself!
shoot through stuff.
i actually got this idea from my parent’s wedding photographer, haha! i don’t have a picture to show (i may add one in later), but he cut out the center of a styrofoam cup and put it over the lens to create a vignette around the photos.
i’m all about doing thing before the click that will make for less work in processing so i wanted to experiment with this! i first tried it at the park one evening. i used the toy telescope on the playground to take pictures of my daughters swinging, i thought it turned out pretty neat. the rest of the pictures i used glass cups from home, i stuck the cup openings over my lens and shot through the bottom of the glass.

the next few photos i played around with how close i held the cup to the lens and how close i held the cup to the subject to see the difference in distortion, reflections and foreground bokeh off the sides of the glass. (incase you can’t see in the small picture these were taken through a square glass)

the palyground pictures were taken with my 35mm f1.8 lens and the rest were taken with my 105mm f4.5 macro

thanks for reading, hope everyone enjoys the long labor day weekend!!

week 9 {photo tip friday}

Posted on August 30, 2010

so once again i have missed a few weeks. this friday thing doesn’t work so well for me, i seem to always be out and about all day on friday! so i am posting it late this week so that i won’t be another week behind. and hopefully i will remember to post again on friday, because i have something really fun planned! so today, isn’t too interesting, but…….
stopping motion.
it is fun to experiment with. and what better way to than with a happy kid in a swing right?! happy being the main thing!
i went ahead and made notes with the photos to show my settings, personally thats the easiest way for me to comprehend and learn =)

in these you can see she wasn’t moving very fast so it was much easier to stop her motion. i actually like the top one with the slower shutter speed the best =)

these ones she was moving a bit faster so i had to use the panning method (read all about it here), which gives an awesome effect and is so much fun but a little tricky to master, as you can see i’m still working on it =)

thanks for reading, hope you all have a wonderful week and make time to get out and shoot stuff up =)

my sweet little boy is a year old! i wish he were easier to photograph, but i’m afraid he’s got a severe case of pks (photographers kid syndrome) which means he can not look at the camera, and if he does he makes a funny face! oh well. this is what i got, and i’m happy with them =)
